Sigma Beta Mu Chapter is collaborating with the Sheppard Foundation for Hope on a Girls’ Empowerment retreat in Kenya! This is the third retreat for the SFFH and Beta Mu’s second time collaborating with SFFH to meet Sigma’s call to address the WHO Sustainable Development Goals. The Empowerment retreat is for young Maasai girls (ages 9-18) and their mothers. Retreat activities build self-esteem, provide support networks, and encourage/support education. The retreat ultimately provides education for both the girls and their mothers about female genital mutilation (FGM) in an attempt to eradicate this practice.
